On two occasions during the season, he went a stretch of three appearances without allowing an earned run. He started out the year from Feb. 24 to Mar. 8 and then again from Mar. 16 to April 2 with no earned runs. Throughout the year David posted seven strikeouts while allowing eight free passes in relief. Hovey demonstrated control against Cal on April 15, when he gave the Tigers 1.2 scoreless innings of work and limited the damage in the 14-1 loss. Hovey only allowed one hit and rung up two batters on strikeouts.<b>2007 (Freshman):</b><br>David made 18 appearances, including one spot start for the Tigers during his freshman season. Hovey finished the year 1-1 with a 7.52 ERA in 26.1 innings of work. Hovey nabbed 11 strikeouts and walked only eight batters on the season. His best performance of the year came in relief as David tossed five innings of scoreless ball in the Tigers' 13-11 loss to Sacramento State on May 1. Hovey allowed just two hits to the Hornets. David had an equally impressive outing against UCLA on Mar. 26, scattering five hits in four innings of scoreless relief in Pacific's 8-3 loss to the Bruins. Hovey notched his first collegiate victory two days before as he did not surrender a run in 0.1 innings during Pacific's 4-3 win over UCLA on May. 24.<b>2006 (Redshirt Freshman):</b><br>David used his redshirt option during the 2006 season.<b>High School:</b><br>Hovey graduated from Poway High School in Poway, Calif. in 2005. As a Titan, David led Poway to a 28-6 record during 2005. Hovey was 12-1 with a 1.61 ERA. He allowed just six walks in 70 innings, while striking out 40. Hovey won the Palomar League ERA title in 2005 and was named the Palomar League Pitcher of the Year. He also earned his team MVP and was named to the All-Palomar League First Team. David was also an excellent student in high school, finishing with a 3.88 GPA. Additionally, he was named to the National Honor Society.Personal:David Hovey is the son of Mark and Susie Hovey. He has one sister, Karen (19), who is a sophomore at Pacific. In his fifth year at Pacific, David is majoring in engineering management.
